Live Bait King Mackerel fishing 101
King Mackerel fishing 101- This class is guaranteed to make you a better fisherman. Spend 1-2 hours in land-class tieing rigs, cast netting and learning other technical skills to becoming a better live bait King Mackerel fisherman. Then fish with Capt. Brant or Capt. Austin as you go through all the motions from catching bait, to picking a spot, to setting the lines to gaffing fish. It is a hands-on classroom on the high-seas. Gulf Stream Fishing 101
Learn how to become a more effective Gulf Stream trolling; targeting species such as Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi and Billfish. ...Capt. Brant invites you to join him for a hands-on lessons on how to catch more fish while Gulf Stream trolling. The class includes a 1-2 hour "ground" school at the Ocean Isle Fishing Center from 6pm-8pm+/- where skills such as tieing rigs, rigging baits and more will be learned. The following morning you'll leave the Fishing Center at 6am and head offshore for a full day of Gulf Stream fishing. Catching fish is certainly a desire, but the main focus of the day will be for you to learn and become comfortable with everything from setting your spread to landing the big one. Live Bait Kite and Balloon fishing
** AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST** COST: $350 per person ** It helps if you are proficient at cast netting bait and live bait fishing before you take this class** 2010 CLASS DATES: TBA This is an auxilary class to the standard live bait fishing class I've been hosting. This class specifically focuses on how to catch fish while anchored- by both fishing with balloons and in particular- KITE FISHING. Particular techniques covered will include: anchoring setup, chumming, balloon fishing, kite fishing, and angling a fish from an anchored boat. |

Vertical Jigging
Learn the ins and outs of vertical jigging. The land class will be held on Saturday PM and will consist of instruction on proper equipment from rods and reels to braided line to topshots and specific knots used to connect all the parts. In addition, discussion on specific jigs and jigging techniques to target specific species is an important part of the class. The actual full day of fishing will be spent at hot spots such as the Steeples or Winyah Scarp where you'll learn, practice and have success jigging for a variety of species from Blackfin Tuna to Grouper. Vertical jigging has become a very important part of the Gulf Stream fishery as it guarantees a day with bent rods and fish in the box; particularly important when the trolling bite is off. Inshore Fishing
Learn the techniques that will make you a better inshore fisherman. From throwing artificials to using live bait, a variety of tactics are covered. Efforts are made to discuss fishing techniques during all seasons, but certain classes will focus on certain species depending upon the time of the year. Class consists of 1-2 hours of "ground school" the PM before the actual full day of fishing. During the fishing day, the Captain will work with each student individually to insure they learn proper techniques. You will go away from this school a better inshore fisherman. We will meet again at the OIFC on Saturday morning around 8am+/- to fish a full day of approximately 8 hours. Our target species will be speckled trout, red drum, black drum, and flounder. We will cover natural bait, live bait, and artificial bait techniques to tempt our targets into biting. We will cover 4 popular presentations during this class that include jigging plastics, floating a cork, Carolina rigging, and a little trick. April 3-4, Capt. Jacob Frick April 17-18, Capt. MAY: Land Class will be held at the OIFC from 5-7pm+/- on Friday afternoon. (cast net throwing lesson and rigging). We will meet again at the OIFC on Saturday morning around 8am+/- to fish a full day of approximately 8 hours. Our target species will be red drum, black drum, and flounder. This class will cover dead sticking for drum, dragging Carolina rigs from an anchored position for flounder and drifting Carolina rigs for flounder. Jigging soft plastics for red drum and flounder will also be covered during our day of fishing. May 1-2, Capt. Jacob Frick May 15-16, Capt. Jeff Williamson SEPTEMBER: We will meet again at the OIFC on Saturday morning around 8am+/- to fish a full day of approximately 8 hours. Our target species will be red drum, black drum and flounder. This class will cover dead sticking live baits close to structure for drum, dragging Carolina rigs from an anchored position for flounder and drifting Carolina rigs for flounder. Jigging soft plastics for red drum and flounder will also be covered during our day of fishing. TBA OCTOBER: Land Class will be held at the OIFC from 5-7pm+/- on Friday afternoon. (8 to 10 foot cast net throwing lesson and rigging). We will meet again at the OIFC on Saturday morning around 8am+/- to fish a full day of approximately 8 hours. Our target species will be puppy drum, flounder, and bull redfish. Utilizing freshly caught live baits we will drift bait pods, drift jetties, and anchor around structure dead sticking large baits to attract our targets. TBA NOVEMBER : Land Class will be held at the OIFC from 5-7pm+/- on Friday afternoon. We will meet again at the OIFC on Saturday morning around 8am+/- to fish a full day of approximately 8 hours. Our target species will be speckled trout. Red drum and flounder will be incidental catches as we work on a one two pause jigging technique to draw aggressive strikes from hungry speckled trout. If live shrimp are available floating a cork will also be covered, but jigging soft plastics will be the technique of choice. No need for a cast net lesson as you should be efficient using soft plastics after completing this class.
