Kayak Fishing
by Capt. Jacob Frick
There is no doubt that a lot more people are getting into kayak fishing. I kayak fished my first couple of years down here. I have caught flounder, trout, and redfish in my kayak. My first citation flounder of 5lbs. 3oz. was in my kayak under the Ocean Isle Bridge. Being on the West end of Ocean Isle gives you direct access to Tubbs Inlet. Flounder should be thick in May and simply drifting lazily in your kayak using a carolina rig with live minnows should be deadly. The docks on the Sunset Beach side of Tubbs will produce reds, trout, and black drum. I would use a small anchor or a length of rope to tie off to a piling. Fish live minnows on a carolina rig under the docks and next to the pilings to produce reds and trout. Fresh shrimp or live shrimp if you can find them will be best for black drum. Stop by the store when you get down for additional information and up to date action.
